Renal action of oxytocin in the tortoise

Abstract

|
Oxytocin, infused into a renal-portal vein of tortoise in a dose of 30mU/h, icited marked decreases in urine flow, glomercular f iltrotion rate and sodium excreted in tbe_urine, which were confined only to the infused side, While the contralateral kidney functioned unaltered. Thus, the possibility that oxytocin might act through some endogenous substances could be ruled out.
